Hello,

I want to thank everyone that participated in Caroline’s Ride 2009. It was an event to help the family of Caroline Bailey, and all the profits were give given directly to Daniel Bailey, Caroline’s Father.

Unfortunately Caroline could not be there as she was in the hospital at Tift Regional Medical Center; she had a high fever and had to get some IV Fluid.

The committee of volunteers did an awesome job and I would say that the event was very successful. The goal from the beginning was to raise at least 5000.00 for the family. I have not got a final tally but we gave an envelope with about 2500.00 in it to Daniel, and another 450.00 from the concession stand, plus Kirsten Underwood gave the money she made from the sale of CD’s to Daniel. We had raised and deposited about 2500.00 before the event, so I am sure that the gross donations were in excess of 6000.00. We have also not received the final checks from Active.com

You can also make donations at any South Georgia Banking Company.

There were 54 Riders registered for the event, and 45 Runners, total of 99 athletes that registered, we had only a few no-shows and most of them had told us in advance that they had other obligations but to use their registration as a donation.

We had numerous compliments from the runners and riders on the routes, rest stops, and the fantastic jobs that the volunteers did.

The Douglas High School JROTC not only did the run, but also stayed and volunteered at the event. There we numerous compliments on the helpfulness and I was told by several people what a "great group of kids" they were.

Cheryl Woods, Scott Yarbrough, Charles Lott, Elaine Hardin, Cindy Cochran, Charles Laquette and Dionne Sims were all winners of the 15.00 gift certificates from Road ID.

We will be sending the certificates to anyone that was not there to pick theirs up.

There were a considerable number of people I recognized from other rides as well as from the Pecan City Pedalers out of Albany, It was great to see so many familiar faces, and great to see so many new people. One person told me he was riding with his son and it was the son’s first ride. He told me that if his son did this ride he would get him a new road bike. That should be an inspiration to finish.

I just wanted to say thanks, and let you know that the event went great and I really appreciate every one of you, some couldn’t come but bought a T-shirt, or sent a donation. Steve Cook from Savannah brought his family, and donated a beautiful hand turned wooden bowl, which probably sold a lot of tickets for the raffle. We had some great prizes including Bicycle Jerseys, gift certificates and a whole table full of goodies.

The wrestlers put on great show. There were actually two title matches with Chad Big Bank Barfield defending his title, and Jake Slater defending his title against Glacier.

Kirsten Underwood was awesome. You will be seeing her name on the country charts soon. She is opening for Shanendoah in two weeks. It won’t be long before someone else is opening for her.

Thanks again, and if you still want to help, you can make a donation at any South Georgia Bank to Caroline’s Ride, or donate through paypal or any credit card at www.carolinesride.com
