Caroline Bailey is 5 years old and has a disease called Neourofibromastosis. This disease causes her body to grow tumors under the skin. Many of the tumors can be removed surgically, but some cannot. Her body contiues to grow more and more of these tumors which are now actually pressing on the aorta and causing the blood supply to vital organs to be slowed. Eventually this will cause the organs to shudown.
A group of volunteers got together and decided that a fundraising bicycle ride may be able to help Caroline and her family with the expenses associated with her treatments and transportation back and forth to Atlanta where she must go for treatment.
The ride will take place Saturday August 29, 2009. the route has been set. The ride will start in Tifton at Tift High School's Northeast Campus Exit 64 on I- 75. It will be a Metric Century 62 miles or 100 KM, but there will be shorter routes for those that don't want to do the 65 miles. If there is enough interest we may also incorporate an extra loop in the route making a full century.
Riders- the cost is 35.00 and you will receive a T-Shirt, full SAG support and a goodie bag. Maps will be provided of the routes and the routes will be marked as well as have SAG vehichles to make sure that everyone is on course. All riders must sign in and we will be making sure everone finishes or is accounted for a signed waiver and a helmet is required to ride.
To help with the ride we are also asking for volunteers to help with registration and virtually all aspects of the ride. Hopefully I can get a form set up here that you can download or fill out and send in by email. For "jobs" we need volunteers to help with, click on the Jobs tab in the menu above or below
